The relaxer

Today my friend & I embarked on a stroll in the city, which of course lead into some shopping. One day I will pass the test and escape from the grip of commercialism that reals me in when walking past a cute store. Haha, who am I kidding, I do love to shop, just like everyone else.
Well, back to hair. I was waiting while my try tried on some jeans and saw a mixed girl. A pretty young girl around 14 years old. She looked at me with curiosity as I often see teen mixed girls doing, I guess it's very interesting to see someone just like them only older. I looked at this girl and she had her hair up in a pony tail, her relaxed her. And it made me wonder... What was her natural hair like? Did she like her relaxed hair? And did she look at my big poofy hair and relate to it? It also made me sad that no one was teaching her to care for her natural hair. Maybe it was the lack of knowledge in mixed her that made her mom continue to do what she knew: relaxer. (I have over the years figured out that most mixed girls with relaxed hair has a dark-skinned mother with relaxed hair. This was also the case today.)
Looking at this girl gave proof that a natural hair class is needed, and that maybe it will change the way natural hair us viewed a bit. My dream is that all girls, growing up, just like I did, in a per dominantly light skinned community will grow up with a loving relationship to their hair.
